RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description amit yadav 2018-05-01 02:02:53 UTC
Description of problem:
Gnome-shell was rebased to version 3.26.2-5 in RHEL7.5. That can be confirmed from the rpm version and rpm changelog:

 # rpm -q gnome-shell
 gnome-shell-3.26.2-5.el7.x86_64

 # rpm -q  --changelog gnome-shell|less
 <snip>
 * Fri Nov 03 2017 Kalev Lember <klember> - 3.26.2-1
 - Update to 3.26.2
 - Related: #1481381
 </snip>

But "gnome-shell --version" is reporting wrong version:

 # gnome-shell --version
 GNOME Shell 3.25.4

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
gnome-shell-3.26.2-5.el7.x86_64

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Run "gnome-shell --version" command on RHEL7.5 system.

Actual results:
Command report GNOME Shell version 3.25.4

Expected results:
Command should report actual version of gnome-shell

gnome-shell switch build systems to meson, which we didn't support prior to RHEL 7.6. So we included a downstream patch to add back autotools support, but we(*) forgot to update the version in the patch to the actual tarball version.

It's an easy fix for 7.5.z if we want it, other versions are unaffected.

(*) me probably, didn't check

If it's an easy fix, can we include in RHEL7.5.z?

just want to add that this was known issue from very early stages in RHEL-7.5 but we haven't been able to fix it back then, there is also problem with wrong version displayed in control-center
