edit button *not* showing

Description of problem:
1. Logout and login
2. Go to My Services -> Service -> Instances
3. Observe the button is not on the toolbar. 
4. Click on the link to go to Generic Object detail page
5. Click on Back button. Observe Exception page

6. Go to My Services -> Service -> Instances
7. Observe Edit button now appears!

How reproducible:
Tried on FF and Chrome.
