Created attachment 1449181 [details] hplip_diagnose_driver_log Description of problem: Using an HP Officejet 4500 g510g-m, wired to my internet box provider (Freebox) via ethernet, I've encountered a list of issues either with cups and/or hplip 3.18.4 (fedora package version): - Trying to detect the printer via HPLIP returns an error stating that the firewall is blocking the detection. HPLIP can then successfully detect the printer if I switch off firewalld or switched it to the trusted zone, but then the printer will act either way very slowly, or freeze completely upon (for example) a "cleaning" command. - Trying to detect the printer via CUPS works everytime, either with or without the firewall on/off, but I experience the same connection problem than with HPLIP : slow printer response or freeze. - Using HPLIP 3.18.5 (via the run script) is a little better (while Fedora 28 is not supported as of yet), and at least returns some logs (see attachment), but slow response and freeze remains along with some very strange behavior : HPLIP is searching for a "/etc/cups/ppd/.ppd" file that is obviously not existing. So I created a symbolic link from /etc/cups/ppd/Officejet.4500.G510g-m.3458AF.ppd to /etc/cups/ppd/.ppd and HPLIP started to work a little better. I'm nowhere near a printer specialist, so if you need further logs and files, I will be happy to provide them as long as I'm told ^^ what to look for.
Hi, thank you for reporting this issue! Would you mind looking into https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_debug_printing_problems and sending requested files in tar archive? You can look in Known issues too, maybe some of them helps.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 28 is nearing its end of life. On 2019-May-28 Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 28. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '28'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 28 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
