Description Ian Collier 2018-08-02 16:26:06 UTC
In the xfce4-terminal package there is a desktop file which starts the
terminal in preferences mode. However, the name of the application inside
this desktop file is "Xfce Terminal". This means if you are using GNOME
and this package is installed, if you search Activities for Terminal,
you will get two icons both called "Xfce Terminal" but only one of them will
actually launch the terminal - the other launches the settings. This is
confusing. (If you are using Xfce and have an Applications menu, one of
them appears under "System Tools" and one appears under "Other", so it still
isn't clear that the "Xfce Terminal" in the Other menu will launch the settings
and not an actual terminal.)

That's a good point. In Xfce, the preferences entry appears under Settings menu.

I will add a patch to fix that, perhaps when I update it next time.

Perhaps ask upstream to add a NotShowIN=Gnome here?

I was going to change the Name field to "Xfce Terminal Preferences". But, your idea is a better idea for sure.

This message is a reminder that Fedora 28 is nearing its end of life.
On 2019-May-28 Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for
Fedora 28. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases
that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as
EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '28'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 28 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 5 Ian Collier 2019-05-07 17:03:09 UTC
Upstream say this is fixed now, but Fedora 30 hasn't picked up
the fixed version.

Comment 6 Mukundan Ragavan 2019-05-07 21:16:08 UTC
I figured we could just release it with the next version since this was not a huge breakage ...
