Red Hat Satellite engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on Satellite to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "Satellite project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs will be migrated starting at the end of May. If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "Satellite project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/SAT-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Mahesh Yadav 2018-08-07 09:34:36 UTC
Description of problem: When removing specific version of kernel packages from Web UI of Satellite, it removes all except the currently booted kernel packages from the content host.

Content host: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.5

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:
100% on Satellite 6.3.2 and 6.2.15

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Register a RHEL 7.5 host with multiple kernels (kernel-3.10.0-517, kernel-3.10.0-693, kernel-3.10.0-862) boot with kernel-3.10.0-517, and then using the Satellite Web UI remove a kernel package for example: (kernel-3.10.0-693).
2. Satellite will remove all the kernel version except the current one from which it is booted.
3. Checked using Web UI task which will report for the removed packages.

Actual results:
- Satellite removes all the kernel related packages, except the running kernel.

Expected results:
- Should remove only specific package of the kernel version and not all.

Do you see this only with katello-agent or also with remote-execution?

Comment 2 Mahesh Yadav 2018-08-08 06:36:18 UTC
Hi Brad,

Yes we have observed this with Katello-agent, We tried reproducing this issue on our end by remote-execution, with remote-execution it works all good.

Remote execution only removed the desired kernel and all other kernel persist.
Do you want us to reproduce this issue on customer end ?

Kindly let us know so that we can proceed with the case.

Comment 3 Brad Buckingham 2018-08-08 12:13:07 UTC
Hi Mahesh,

Thanks for the quick confirmation. We primarily wanted to confirm that the issue observed is isolated to a katello-agent scenario. We do not need to have the customer confirm the same, since you were able to verify it on our end. That said, if this is a critical issue for the customer and if remote execution is an option, it would be reasonable to suggest it as an alternative.

If the customer has a case open for this issue, please do attach it to the bugzilla.

Thanks!

Brad, very possible that this has been addressed.

Mahesh, can you provide some additional info around how exactly the package was removed:

- was it removed from the 'installed packages' list by selecting the checkbox?
- was it removed by the package removal action in which you provided the name 'kernel-3.10.0-693' exactly in the text box?

Comment 7 Mahesh Yadav 2018-09-17 11:50:52 UTC
Hi Jonathon,

Actually we tried two ways to remove the package from the host.
1. We given exact name of 'kernel-version' in the field and removed it.
2. In second attempt we performed this via remote job, yum remove 'kernel version'

In both scenario all the kernel available in system gets removed and only the booted kernel remain in the system.

Mahesh,

This issue is fixed for 6.4 by https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1615899. While the bug talks only about install, it fixes the problem for install/uninstall/update when using katello-agent. Is upgrading to 6.4 an option?

Marking this as a dupe of hte bug in comment 11. Mahesh, if you still seen an issue in 6.4 please open a new bug.
