Description Jaroslav Škarvada 2018-09-26 11:58:06 UTC
Description of problem:
FreeDV is very efficient digital HF communication voice mode which outperforms SSB. Quisk has support for it.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
quisk-4.1.17

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Run quisk
2. Check FDV-U button
3.

Actual results:
FDV-U button disabled

Expected results:
FDV-U button enabled

Additional info:
It's enough to enable it by adding the following to spec:
Suggests: codec2-devel

Unfortunately there has to be codec2-devel, not codec2, because quisk dynamically searches and loads libcodec2.so through dlopen. This is very lame approach and unfortunately codec2 has broken SONAME so currently there is probably no other way than having 'libcodex2.so' in the libs for this feature to work.

In ideal world there will be e.g. 'libcodec2.so.0' and 'libcodec2.so.0.8' and quisk will dynamically links with 'libcodec2.so.0'. Of course we could get there through bugs on both codec2 and quisk, but it would take a lot of time and effort, so simple 'Suggests: codec2-devel' line is the most simple workaround at the moment.

Comment 1 Ben Cotton 2018-11-27 14:21:38 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 27 is nearing its end of life.
On 2018-Nov-30 Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for
Fedora 27. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases
that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as
EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '27'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 27 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.
