Created attachment 1488759 [details] journalctl output from Fedora 29b live cd boot. Description of problem: Fedora 29b livecd is uninstallable on this hardware (Radeon graphics) Fedora 28 livecd ... same. Fedora 27 livecd ... works fine I'm filing this against Fedora 29beta. The problem exists in Fedora 28 production as well. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Linux capable 4.18.5-300.fc29.x86_64 #1 SMP Fri Aug 24 17:16:35 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Radeon graphics (via lspci) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Pitcairn XT [Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition] 01:00.1 Audio device: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Cape Verde/Pitcairn HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 7700/7800 Series] Intel CPU (via /proc/cpuinfo) model : 62 model name : Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4960X CPU @ 3.60GHz How reproducible: 100% Steps to Reproduce: Fedora 29b 1. build the livecd 2. boot to a black screen 3. Alt-F2 to get a tty shell (the machine is running, but graphics crashes) Fedora 28 (primary method) same Fedora 28 (alternate method) 1. install Fedora 27, see graphics enjoy the desktop 2. accept all updates from dnf 3. accept the os inplace upgrade to Fedora 28 4. boot to a black screen 5. Alt-F2 to get a tty shell Actual results: No graphics; the release is unusable except as a headless server. Expected results: Graphics Additional info: See attached journalctl output with two stanzas of kernel crashes. Two stanzas of kernel problems are highlighted here. The second is the graphics crashing of gome-shell Sep 30 21:51:28 localhost kernel: ------------[ cut here ]------------ Sep 30 21:51:28 localhost kernel: generic_make_request: Trying to write to This message is a reminder that Fedora 29 is nearing its end of life. Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 29 on 2019-11-26. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '29'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 29 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Fedora 29 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2019-11-26. Fedora 29 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
