Description of problem: When installing xonsh using dnf, the /etc/shells file is not updated with the shell's binary. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): xonsh-0.5.12-3.fc28.src.rpm Steps to Reproduce: 1. dnf install xonsh 2. chsh -s /usr/bin/xonsh <user> This will result in a message stating the shell does not exist. 1. dnf install xonsh 2. edit /etc/passwd and make user's default shell /usr/bin/xonsh 3. reboot This will result in not finding the user via the gdm. Actual results: The shell is installed and works. The main problem is the missing step of adding it as a valid shell to make as default. Additional info: If the /etc/passwd file is edited to make the default shell /usr/bin/xonsh, it will be the default shell, but the gdm will somehow fail to recognize your user on the system. if it is the only user, gdm will treat the system as having no user and start up gnome with the gnome-initial-setup process. even if you add the shell to /etc/shells after the fact, your user will still not be recognized by gnome.
