RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Lumír Balhar 2018-11-16 10:27:32 UTC
Hello,

please switch the runtime dependency of babel and python3-babel from the package "python3-setuptools" to "platform-python-setuptools".

The platform-python-setuptools package is exactly the same, except it doesn't contain the user-facing executable `easy_install-3.6` which is not needed by this package. It's highly confusing to users to have the easy_install executable installed, but not python3 (BZ#1638836).

Hi, can we help move this bug along?

Comment 3 Tomas Orsava 2018-12-12 19:06:39 UTC

Comment 5 Lumír Balhar 2019-01-30 07:29:15 UTC
Setting internal target release to 8.0.0.1. Now we have to wait for branching.

Comment 6 Lumír Balhar 2019-02-18 09:14:23 UTC
I am sorry. I did a mistake. I should not be the one who set internal target release to your bug.
Could you please schedule work on this bug somehow? It's a really easy fix and it'll improve users experience. Thank you.

Comment 7 Nils Philippsen 2019-03-12 12:56:51 UTC
Sorry that this slipped past me. Thanks for the reminder and fix! I'll get on it right away.

Comment 9 Nils Philippsen 2019-03-12 13:28:05 UTC
proposing for 0day

Comment 10 Nils Philippsen 2019-03-12 14:12:24 UTC
I've talked about this bug with Brendan Conoboy, and with the low impact (presence of easy_install-3.6 without python3, i.e. merely confusing) it doesn't seem to warrant a 0day/zstream. I'll reset the zstream? flag and devel whiteboard and rather attempt to get this documented in the release notes.

Comment 11 Nils Philippsen 2019-03-12 14:15:59 UTC
James, is there a process how to get this documented in the 8.0 GA release notes?

Comment 12 Nils Philippsen 2019-03-14 14:42:55 UTC
(In reply to Nils Philippsen from comment #11)

We've discussed this directly in mail, James will get it done. Thanks!

Comment 13 Nils Philippsen 2019-03-14 14:46:48 UTC
Note: Once the package has been fixed (8.1), the relevant parts need to be removed from the release notes (assuming we will have them and that they'll inherit 8.0 GA content).
