hey guess what? Something actually uses the
almost useless /etc/HOSTNAME link!

on trying to start `trn` it dies with the 
error messages:

Warning: Couldn't open /etc/HOSTNAME to determine hostname!

Caught an internal error--.newsrc restored

Fixed in trn-3.6-25.
