Description of problem: It is recommended not to mix hosts with different IP-stack (IPv4, IPv6, or both) at the same cluster. Currently, the system is not alerting or blocking the user from such a configuration Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 4.3.0-0.6.alpha2.el7 How reproducible: 100% Steps to Reproduce: 1. Engine: go to Compute | Hosts | Network Interfaces | Setup Host Networks 2. Edit 'ovirtmgmt' attached to NIC 3. Enable/Disable IPv6/IPv4 Actual results: User can set one host as IPv4 only and second as IPv6 & IPv4 Expected results: All hosts should have the same settings, only IPv4, only IPv6, or both IPv4 & IPv6 Additional info: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1658639
Hi Roni, Where do you think would be the best place to present this information? Here's a list of the most likely topics: https://access.redhat.com/search/#/?q=ovirtmgmt&p=1&sort=relevant&scoped=false&documentKind=Documentation
Hi Roni. Aside from not mixing protocols, could you please confirm that IPv6 is supported? I ask because I found this note, which might be outdated: "The IPv6 tab should not be used as it is currently not supported." in the following doc topic: https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_virtualization/4.2/html-single/administration_guide/#Editing_host_network_interfaces In any case, that note in the doc is the same place where I plan to document place the following proposed text: "All of the hosts must have the same setting: IPv4, IPv6, or IPv4 & IPv6 For example, when configuring Host Network Interfaces using Setup Host Networks and ovirtmgmt, set all of the hosts to use only one of the following: IPv4, IPv6, or IPv4 & IPv6. If the hosts use different settings, they will not be able to connect." Please review and approve. Thanks, Rolfe
Hi Rolfe Regarding comment 4 above, I think that the best place to present this information would be: 3.16. HOST NETWORKING CONFIGURATIONS Regarding Comment 5: IPv6 should be supported from v4.3 I would change the proposed text as following: 1. "All of the hosts at the same cluster must have....." I add the text: "at the same cluster" 2. "...they will not be able to connect..." should be changed to "...they will not be able to communicate one with each other..." Thanks Roni
I've added the following text to /home/rdlugyhe/docs-Red_Hat_Enterprise_Virtualization/doc-Technical_Reference/topics/Host_Networking_Configurations.adoc [IMPORTANT] ==== Set all of the hosts in the same cluster to use the same option: *IPv4*, *IPv6*, or *IPv4 & IPv6*. For example, when configuring the ovirtmgmt network, set all of the host network interfaces in the *Setup Host Networks* window to use only one of the following options: *IPv4*, *IPv6*, or *IPv4 & IPv6*. If the hosts use different options, they cannot communicate with each other. ==== Roni is tech reviewing the rendered doc. Roni. I've created this WIP merge request: https://gitlab.cee.redhat.com/rhci-documentation/docs-Red_Hat_Enterprise_Virtualization/merge_requests/1205 When you've reviewed and approved the text, I'll resolve the WIP status.

Hi Chris, Would you peer review the two PDFs? To find the added text, Ctrl+F "Set all of the hosts in the same cluster to " Here's the associated WIP merge request https://gitlab.cee.redhat.com/rhci-documentation/docs-Red_Hat_Enterprise_Virtualization/merge_requests/1209
The documentation has been updated to fix this issue. See: https://gitlab.cee.redhat.com/rhci-documentation/docs-Red_Hat_Enterprise_Virtualization/merge_requests/1210 The changes were both tech reviewed and doc reviewed.
