Note: This bug is displayed in read-only format because the product is no longer active in Red Hat Bugzilla.
RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Zenon Panoussis 2018-12-19 20:39:04 UTC
mock --dnf -r rhelbeta-8-x86_64 rebuild <any package>.src.rpm
...
Error: transaction check vs depsolve:
(annobin if gcc) is needed by redhat-rpm-config-115-1.el8.noarch
rpmlib(RichDependencies) <= 4.12.0-1 is needed by redhat-rpm-config-115-1.el8.noarch
To diagnose the problem, try running: 'rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest'.
You probably have corrupted RPMDB, running 'rpm --rebuilddb' might fix the issue.

The problem is not a corrupted rpm db, but the requirement of rpmlib <= 4.12.0-1, which is not part of RHEL8 beta. As a result, nothing can be built.

What are your mock, rpm, and dnf package versions? Thanks.

Comment 2 Zenon Panoussis 2018-12-19 21:00:58 UTC
The host system is SL 7.6, so mock-1.4.13-1, rpm-4.11.3-35 and dnf-2.7.5-19. The error, however, occurs inside the mock build root, which bootstraps with whatever is available at https://downloads.redhat.com/redhat/rhel/rhel-8-beta/baseos/source/ .

Comment 3 Zenon Panoussis 2018-12-19 21:03:00 UTC
> whatever is available at

Sorry, that was a copy/paste error. I meant whatever is available at http://downloads.redhat.com/redhat/rhel/rhel-8-beta/baseos/$basearch/

Comment 4 Florian Weimer 2018-12-19 21:21:44 UTC
The rpm in SL 7.6 (whatever that is) is too old to create a mock chroot with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 in it.

See also bug #1536797.

Comment 6 Zenon Panoussis 2018-12-19 22:23:50 UTC
SL is scientific linux, so a debranded RHEL 7.6. For the rest I can confirm that you are right and it's the host rpm causing the problem. This can be worked around with "config_opts['use_bootstrap_container'] = True" in rhelbeta-8-x86_64.cfg.
