+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #1661510 +++ +++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #1661508 +++ The fix for bug 1186563 has the side effect that binaries are no longer stripped because glibc.spec uses the -g option. This adds a measurable overhead to the packages.
We are still reviewing this for inclusion in Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Packaging work is required and we are looking at this overall between Fedora, and RHEL.
After evaluating this issue, there are no plans to address it further or fix it in an upcoming release. Therefore, it is being closed. If plans change such that this issue will be fixed in an upcoming release, then the bug can be reopened.
Fedora has implemented a solution for this. It seems to work well. We could apply the same change downstream, to benefit from the installation size reduction.
I think Fedora 33 has the changes we need, especially in the form of the wrapper script: https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/glibc/blob/f33/f/wrap-find-debuginfo.sh
rpm-4.14.3-20.el8 is in the buildroot, so this should now be unblocked.
Since the problem described in this bug report should be resolved in a recent advisory, it has been closed with a resolution of ERRATA. For information on the advisory (glibc bug fix and enhancement update), and where to find the updated files, follow the link below. If the solution does not work for you, open a new bug report. https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2022:2005
Please note that as part of this change, we now always keep debuginfo for ld.so to help with dynamic loader introspection. See bug 2102778 for some discussion regarding that.
