Description Tom Horsley 2019-01-18 12:41:28 UTC
Created attachment 1521511 [details]
annotated strace output from trace of sshd

Description of problem:

If I ssh into my fedora 29 system as an NIS user, the ssh login process hangs for about 30 seconds before finally finishing. I ran strace on sshd and watched what happened when logging in, and it seems to hang waiting on the system dbus to respond. The systemd process is running and has the dbus socket open, so I'm not sure what the hang is about.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
systemd-239-8.gite339eae.fc29.x86_64
systemd-libs-239-8.gite339eae.fc29.x86_64

How reproducible:
100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1.see above
2.
3.

Actual results:
30 second hang

Expected results:
login immediately

Additional info:
This started happening within the last week or so. I see a systemd-libs update that was installed on the 15th, so that might be responsible. I'll attach the strace listing. Search for "dbus" in it and page down to see the poll that hangs.

Comment 1 Tom Horsley 2019-01-18 12:51:23 UTC
And I just did a dnf downgrade systemd and the delay is gone. These are the working versions:

systemd-239-3.fc29.x86_64
systemd-libs-239-3.fc29.x86_64

P.S. Here's a mailing list thread about this problem:

Comment 2 Tom Horsley 2019-02-12 21:50:02 UTC
And now, I've allowed the system to upgrade to systemd-239-11.git4dc7dce.fc29.x86_64, and NIS login is no longer slow, so I don't know what change fixed this, but it seems to be fixed.

Comment 3 Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 2019-02-13 07:27:56 UTC
OK, since it seems to be fixed, I'll close this without diagnosing what is the actual issue is. If you see it again, please reopen.

Comment 4 Tom Horsley 2019-02-13 12:36:43 UTC
Well, yesterday NIS logins were OK. This morning after starting the system up again, NIS logins once more are taking about 30 seconds. Still on 239-11.git4dc7dce.fc29.x86_64

Comment 5 Tom Horsley 2019-05-10 12:23:12 UTC
I'm running fedora 30 now for a while, and I've never seen the NIS hang, so I guess this is fixed in fedora 30.
