Red Hat Bugzilla 1642089 0 unspecified CLOSED Anaconda on netinst media is installing from updates-testing 2021-02-22 00:41:40 UTC

Description Kamil Páral 2019-01-28 14:51:48 UTC
Description of problem:

Hello, at the end of F29 cycle, we had a long discussion about how updates-testing repo should be handled in Anaconda (when to enable it, when to disable it). That is covered in bug 1642089. We had a discussion in QA about this, covered here:
https://pagure.io/fedora-qa/issue/567
https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/test@lists.fedoraproject.org/thread/PCHDQAXZLIP2DLE5SMZMKLJKNFZUEHZO/

We arrived at a conclusion that we'd prefer updates-testing all the time. I'd like to ask you to implement this for Fedora 30, if you agree with it. Here's a more detailed description:

* updates-testing and updates-testing-modular repos are always disabled
* updates and updates-modular repos are controlled by the "Don't install the latest available software updates" checkbox in the Installation Source spoke. The default checkbox state changes depending on the install medium (I think it currently enables updates for netinst and disable updates for DVD), that's completely fine for us.

Thank you!

Additional info:

I'd also like to suggest to rename the checkbox from "Don't install the latest available software updates" to "Install the latest available software updates" (and revert the internal logic), or perhaps change it to a list-box:

(o) Install the latest available software updates
( ) Install the default versions provided by the installation source (above) only

Currently it's a negative sentence and that's an UI designer sin. It makes talking and even thinking about it harder. Rephrasing it would improve readability a lot. (This is just a side request/suggestion, it is not necessary for the main requested change.)

Hello Kamil,

Thanks for the bug, both issues are valid but could you please split this request into two bugs. Thanks!

Comment 2 Kamil Páral 2019-01-29 15:35:15 UTC
I separated the naming suggestion into bug 1670471.

Sorry, this should have read:
"We arrived at a conclusion that we'd prefer updates-testing *to be disabled* all the time."

Jiri, is there any chance this gets implemented in Fedora 30? Anaconda still uses updates-testing by default (and a faulty package in it breaks netinst at the moment).

Comment 5 Vendula Poncova 2019-03-25 14:34:21 UTC
Fixed in a pull request: https://github.com/rhinstaller/anaconda/pull/1913

Btw. I would prefer if updates-testing and updates-testing-modular repos were disabled by default, so Anaconda doesn't have to disable them, but that is ok for now.
