Note: This bug is displayed in read-only format because the product is no longer active in Red Hat Bugzilla.
RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Ivan Vecera 2019-03-13 13:38:53 UTC
Description of problem:
The current version of ethtool present in RHEL-8 is 4.16 and is missing several features that present in RHEL-8 kernel and bunch of bugfixes.

Missing features:
1. Register dump for LAN78xx USB NICs
2. Security registers in IXGBE register dump
3. Wake-on-Filtersfunctionality (Wake-on-LAN using filters programmed with the
   ethtool::rxnfc)
4. Support for combinations of FEC modes

Comment 3 Tianhao 2019-03-14 01:58:12 UTC
Hi Ivan,

Can you provide some some details of verifying these feature? For example, the device id of NIC mentioned in feature 1 and the steps in other features.

Regards,
Tianhao

1. Register dump for LAN78xx USB NICs
You need a device with USB ID 0424:{7800,7801,7850}. I haven't found any of these devices in beaker. So I'm not sure whether we will be able to verify this.

2. Security registers in IXGBE register dump
Run register dump on ixgbe NIC and check that security regs are included:

[root@hp-dl120g7-01 ~]# ethtool -d ens1f0
...
0x08800: SECTXCTRL (Security Tx Control) 0x00000001
0x08804: SECTXSTAT (Security Tx Status) 0x00000001
0x08808: SECTXBUFFAF (Security Tx Buffer Almost Full) 0x00000250
0x08800: SECTXMINIFG (Security Tx Buffer Minimum IFG) 0x00001001
0x08800: SECRXCTRL (Security Rx Control) 0x00000001
0x08800: SECRXSTAT (Security Rx Status) 0x00000001

3. Wake-on-Filters functionality (Wake-on-LAN using filters programmed with the ethtool::rxnfc)
Cannot be verified as no driver in RHEL8 supports this feature yet.

4. Support for combinations of FEC modes

Setting FEC modes support currently nfp, cxgb4 and sfc drivers in RHEL8 but only cxgb4 and nfp support mode combination. This can be achieved by:

# ethtool --set-fec <NIC> encoding auto rs --or--
# ethtool --set-fec <NIC> encoding baser rs

Comment 6 Tianhao 2019-03-14 07:53:31 UTC
Based on comment #5 set qa_ack+.
In addition, feature 1 and feature 3 cannot be verified due to the lack of device and non-support for the feature.
