Description Elliott Sales de Andrade 2019-03-14 08:25:23 UTC
This is not really a bug in mingw-python2 per se, but more of an RFE. There is mingw-python2 but no mingw-python3.

With Fedora's push to remove Python 2 from the native distro, it seems only prudent to also at least provide Python 3 in cross-compiled MinGW files.

Comment 1 Sandro Mani 2019-03-14 08:41:32 UTC
I'll be working on this in the coming weeks.

Comment 2 Miro Hrončok 2019-03-14 09:35:37 UTC
Note that we (Python Maint at Red Hat) have decided not to persuade this as we don't maintain the mingw stack at all. That said, it obviously makes sense to switch to Python 3 even with mingw.

Comment 3 Elliott Sales de Andrade 2019-03-17 08:30:36 UTC
Well, I don't know about that. But not having Python 3 makes it really difficult to recommend to upstreams who want to test and have dropped 2 entirely since that's the way the Linux distros are going. (Note, I'm speaking about gobject-introspection here and they are specifically looking for cross-compiling, not just testing on Windows.)

Well a big portion of Fedora packaging is done on a voluntary basis and depending on the needs of the respective packager. You are completely free to provide the packages you are missing yourself. In this specific case, as stated above, I'll be able to work on it soon, probably by the end of Q2. If that is not quick enough for you, please do feel free look into it.

I'm now doing test builds of mingw-python3 and related packages here [1]. Feel free to test and give feedback.
