Description Pat Kelly 2019-03-27 15:22:28 UTC
Description of problem: Initially Sound -> Output -> test works fine on both the Right and Left side. Then after trying the Alert Sounds, The Left side quits working. There is no apparent way to restore the function.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
3.32.0.1-1.fc30

How reproducible:
100% .

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Bare metal (Lenovo M58p with E8400 processor) install for F30 Workstation RC 1.8. No updates applied, but this condition persists even after updates are applied. Rebooting does not correct the problem.

2.Open GCC and select Sound tab.

3. In the Sound tab and in the Output section select test. Run both the Right and Left side and note that the work. Close the Test pop up.

4. In the Alert Sound section click each of the Alert sounds and note that they play, but the souund only comes from the Right side.

5. Open Test in the Output section and try both the Right and Left side. Note that only the Right side works.

Actual results: As described above.

Expected results: Selecting an Alert sound should not disable a sound output channel.

In the output when I adjust the balance it works fine for me.

Comment 2 Pat Kelly 2019-03-28 13:08:03 UTC
As it turns out, playing the alert sounds is not the source of the problem. As Sumantro observed, the problem is the the balance gets shifted all the way to the side. The balance shift is caused by scrolling down the Sound panel with your mouse's scroll wheel. If the mouse's pointer crosses over the Balance control while scrolling the Balance control will shift to one side or the other depending on the direction of scroll. This is easy to miss due to the low contrast of the balance control and not expecting such behaviour.
