Description of problem: The process `xdg-desktop-portal-kde` is continuously using 100% of CPU since I upgraded to F30 beta. Every time I kill it, it returns back when I search for an app in the GNOME Shell Overview. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): xdg-desktop-portal-kde-5.15.2-2.fc30.x86_64 gnome-shell-3.32.0-1.fc30.x86_64 How reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open GNOME Shell Overview. 2. Search for an application. 3. High CPU usage is observed in `htop` or any system resources monitoring app. Actual results: High CPU usage of process `xdg-desktop-portal-kde` Expected results: Normal CPU usage of process `xdg-desktop-portal-kde` Additional info: The only logs I could capture that mentions this process from `journalctl` command was the following; Apr 16 09:47:35 anass-galago systemd[2601]: Created slice dbus\x2d:1.2\x2dorg.freedesktop.impl.portal.desktop.kde.slice. Apr 16 09:47:35 anass-galago systemd[2601]: Started dbus-:1.2-org.freedesktop.impl.portal.desktop.kde. Apr 16 09:47:35 anass-galago xdg-desktop-portal-kde[11551]: Warning: Ignoring XDG_SESSION_TYPE=wayland on Gnome. Use QT_QPA_PLATFORM=wayland to run on Wayland anyway.
Confirming. Also after upgrade to Fedora 30.
First of all, you shouldn't be using xdg-desktop-portal-kde in Gnome, instead install xdg-desktop-portal-gtk. Can you in a terminal run: 1) killall xdg-desktop-portal-kde 2) QT_LOGGING_RULES='xdp*.debug=true' /usr/libexec/xdg-desktop-portal-kde Then try to reproduce the issue and attach the output here.

I am affected by this bug too. (In reply to Jan Grulich from comment #2) > First of all, you shouldn't be using xdg-desktop-portal-kde in Gnome, > instead install xdg-desktop-portal-gtk. I have xdg-desktop-portal-gtk running, it works fine. I don't know why xdg-desktop-portal-kde is running, but it is being started at every login as child of `/usr/lib/systemd/systemd --user`, as is xdg-desktop-portal and xdg-desktop-portal-kde and xdg-document-portal. > Can you in a terminal run: > 1) killall xdg-desktop-portal-kde > 2) QT_LOGGING_RULES='xdp*.debug=true' /usr/libexec/xdg-desktop-portal-kde > > Then try to reproduce the issue and attach the output here. The output does not look like it contains anything interesting: $ QT_LOGGING_RULES='xdp*.debug=true' /usr/libexec/xdg-desktop-portal-kde Warning: Ignoring XDG_SESSION_TYPE=wayland on Gnome. Use QT_QPA_PLATFORM=wayland to run on Wayland anyway. xdp-kde-wayland-integration: Egl initialization succeeded xdp-kde-wayland-integration: "EGL version: 1.4" xdp-kde: Desktop portal registered successfully xdp-kde-wayland-integration: Registry initialized xdp-kde-wayland-integration: Adding output: xdp-kde-wayland-integration: manufacturer: "BNQ" xdp-kde-wayland-integration: model: "BenQ RL2450H" xdp-kde-wayland-integration: resolution: QSize(1920, 1080) Maybe the backtrace I reported in bug #1707954 helps.
Can you kill xdg-desktop-portal and start it with "G_MESSAGES_DEBUG=all /usr/libexec/xdg-desktop-portal" to see what portals it uses?
Created attachment 1566741 [details] $ killall xdg-desktop-portal && G_MESSAGES_DEBUG=all /usr/libexec/xdg-desktop-portal KDE is listed only twice in the logs, first when loading the module > loading /usr/share/xdg-desktop-portal/portals/kde.portal and then later during some proxy initialization stuff: > Falling back to kde.portal for org.freedesktop.impl.portal.Settings
So the only portal used from xdg-desktop-portal-kde seems to be Settings portal, I think this might be already fixed in Plasma 5.15.5 with this [1] commit. You can either try this or wait until we update it in Fedora. [1] - https://cgit.kde.org/xdg-desktop-portal-kde.git/commit/?h=Plasma/5.15&id=045302b5292cb62da5843906825c04898d6656d7

This message is a reminder that Fedora 30 is nearing its end of life. Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 30 on 2020-05-26. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '30'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 30 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
I have not seen this issue for a long while on Fedora 31.
