Note: This bug is displayed in read-only format because
the product is no longer active in Red Hat Bugzilla.
RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.
Description of problem:
Function check_links() has two sections:
1) Set LDAP related links according to SAP note 2002167
2) Set libstdc++ links to support binaries compiled with more recent gcc versions that available at RHEL GA time.
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
0.98
How reproducible:
By following the steps to Reproduce below.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install RHEL 8 Minimal Environment or Server
2. Install the sapconf package (sapconf-0.98-15.el8.noarch.rpm). Dependencies:
dnf-utils-4.0.2.2-3.el8.noarch
tuned-profiles-sap-2.10.0-14.el8.noarch
3. Uncomment the call to check_rpms() (line 999) to avoid BZ 1670494 .
4. Check the output of the following commands:
# ls -al /usr/lib64/libldap*
# ls -al /usr/lib64/liblber*
# ls -al /usr/lib/libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.3
Actual results:
1) Link /usr/lib64/libldap.so.199 points to nonexistent file libldap-2.3.so.0.
2) Link /usr/lib64/liblber.so.199 points to nonexistent file liblber-2.3.so.0.
3) Link /usr/lib/libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.3 points to nonexistent file libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3.
Expected results:
1) Do not create a link /usr/lib64/libldap.so.199 in RHEL 8. By checking a SAP NetWeaver 7.50 installation (Sybase database) for the output of:
# cd /usr/sap/RS2/SYS/exe/run/
# for file in *; do ldd $file | grep ldap; done
, I found that the only references to ldap point to /lib64/libldap-2.4.so.2, which exists on the RHEL 8 system:
...
ldappasswd
libldap-2.4.so.2 => /lib64/libldap-2.4.so.2 (0x00007f785fd0f000)
ldapreg
libldap-2.4.so.2 => /lib64/libldap-2.4.so.2 (0x00007fa68c0f0000)
ldap_rfc
libldap-2.4.so.2 => /lib64/libldap-2.4.so.2 (0x00007f8ef6adb000)
...
# ls -al /lib64/libldap-2.4.so.2
lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 21 Dec 17 17:25 /lib64/libldap-2.4.so.2 -> libldap-2.4.so.2.10.9
2) Do not create a link /usr/lib64/liblber.so.199 in RHEL 8. Outputs:
# cd /usr/sap/RS2/SYS/exe/run
# for file in *; do echo $file; ldd $file | grep lber; done
...
ldappasswd
liblber-2.4.so.2 => /lib64/liblber-2.4.so.2 (0x00007f31e1fa9000)
ldapreg
liblber-2.4.so.2 => /lib64/liblber-2.4.so.2 (0x00007f399c8fa000)
ldap_rfc
liblber-2.4.so.2 => /lib64/liblber-2.4.so.2 (0x00007f01f1dcb000)
...
# ls -al /lib64/liblber-2.4.so.2
lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 21 Dec 17 17:25 /lib64/liblber-2.4.so.2 -> liblber-2.4.so.2.10.9
3) Do not create a link /usr/lib/libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.3 in RHEL 8
Additional info:
My proposal is to remove function check_links() as well as the call to check_links from sapconf for RHEL 8.
In the future, creating libc compatibility links might be necessary again (in case SAP decides to use a newer compiler than shipped with RHEL 8), so we might need such a function again. The other option would be to remove all lines (maybe except the comment regarding the compat library) from function check_links() and to comment out the call to check_links.
item 3 in Steps to Reproduce:
3. Uncomment the call to check_rpms() (line 999) to avoid BZ 1670494 .
needs to be replaced by:
3. Comment out the call to check_rpms() (line 998) to avoid BZ 1670494 . Then, execute sapconf as follows (without the "#" sign):
# sapconf
