There is a newer version of speex available:

http://downloads.us.xiph.org/releases/speex/speex-1.0.5.tar.gz

This newer version is required to compile the latest version of linphone (and
I'm sure that it affects other applications).

This effects the gaim program. Latest development includes some voice chat
features, and requires speex_encode_int() function (libspeex=1.0.5 or
libspeex>=1.1.6)

I just built speex 1.0.5 this afternoon.  I didn't see 1.1.6.  Is that the
development version?

should be: libspeex=1.0.5 or
libspeex<=1.1.6 I guess

I have no idea, I'm reading from the clearly badly labelled) configure.ac of
gaim CVS

Closing since FC5 has had speex 1.0.5 for some time now...
