RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Hello Carlos

I would like to also ask, where is this information coming from and is it used system-wide ?
We are having issues with some shell extensions and we are thinking if this version is not influencing
gnome-sofware's decision to install the right version of the extension.

I would add one more think to what Martin wrote. Shell extensions from RPM are ok because they were rebuild against 3.32 gnome-shell but extensions from extensions.gnome.org are problematic. Some work some don't. We think it might be caused but mixed versions of gnome-shell/mutter and the rest of the system.

The version listed in Settings comes from gnome-desktop3 package. We need to update gnome-desktop3 to a matching 3.32.x release to get the new number listed in Settings.

As for gnome-software, I don't think the version listed in Settings has any effect on it. gnome-software asks gnome-shell over dbus for the version for installing extensions.

Correct. If an extension doesn't work with the rebased desktop, then it is very likely broken in 3.32 altogether. There were various big changes last cycle that affected many extensions, so unless they update to work with the new version, they'll be broken.

I don't mind including gnome-desktop in the rebase (I don't see any major changes, but still a good number of minor improvements and fixes), but it won't fix any extension issues.

Got it.

Martin (mkrajnak) actually advised workaround, removing the old extension transitioned from older gnome-shell and installing it again seems to resolve the issue. As gnome-software do not have a mechanism for extensions update (mkrajnak do we have bz for this too?)

Oh and I forgot to mention we should document this workaround if agree on it.

After installation of gnome-desktop3-3.32.2-1.el8.x86_64 I can see GNOME Version 3.32.2 in control center.
