Any update on this?
It just basically needs the new dependency qt5-qtwebengine-devel, also I guess you can probably remove the minizip-patch.

Ping? (In reply to Jonathan Haas from comment #20) > It just basically needs the new dependency qt5-qtwebengine-devel, also I > guess you can probably remove the minizip-patch. You will also want to package the standalone PageEdit that was split in sigil 0.9.15, otherwise you lose the XHTML editing functionality.

Are you going to upgrade Sigil to a modern version, ever? The version in Rawhide is now almost 3 years old and still relies on the deprecated QtWebKit that has not received any security updates for almost 2 years. Also note that, as I mentioned in https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1724109#c34 , PageEdit is now a separate application that needs to go through a separate review.

I am one of the Sigil devs. I was wondering why this bug has existed for literally years with no progress. Sigil 1.9.10+ should build out of the box on any recent Linux distribution that supports Qt5 or even Qt6. Arch, Ubuntu, Debian, Manjaro, OpenSuse, etc all support our latest version and earlier ines. See the end of the Sigil ReadMe on our github site for a more complete list of which Linux distros ship what version of Sigil. https://github.com/Sigil-Ebook/Sigil I tried to track down why your latest automated srpm build failed but was unable to find anything other than a non link saying to look at root.log or build.log but no further info. If anyone cares, I am willing to help someone there debug why your automated builds are failing if you could share the actual build process, logs, etc.
This bug is stuck because the package is maintained by a person who refuses to upgrade it. Possibly because he is also a secondary architecture maintainer and QtWebEngine does not support the architecture(s) he cares about. But it is clear that QtWebKit is a dead end, which is why Sigil was ported to QtWebEngine upstream. Sticking to the ancient QtWebKit version of Sigil forever is not going to be a reasonable solution here.
Is there anything we (the upstream Sigil developers) can do to help move things forward?
You can try invoking the https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Policy_for_nonresponsive_package_maintainers/ – then there are three ways things can go: 1. If the maintainer finally upgrades the package, the issue is resolved. (Though it would be great to also have the standalone PageEdit packaged, since that functionality was split from the old Sigil.) 2. If the maintainer does not respond at all, you can pick up the package as per the above policy (though you will need to get sponsored as a Fedora packager if you are not yet). 3. If the maintainer responds that he does not want to upgrade the package, you have a documented disagreement that you can escalate to FESCo.
Since I am not a Fedora Linux user and can not take over maintainership that process is more likely to leave Sigil with no maintainer at all which would make things worse not better. I am surprised that anything using QtWebKit is still being included given all of the security holes it must have by now. We ported Sigil to QtWebEngine over 3 years ago for that very reason. FYI, Epub3's can access remote resources and run javascripts so that could a possible security risk. But that of course is Redhat's call, not mine. Thanks for explaining things.
KevinK hit the point, while I like Sigil my motivation to keep it updated is quite low, because QtWebEngine lacks support for ppc64le arch, because Chromium won't accept it, although the necessary patches existed years ago. Currently there is no sustainable plan how resolve it, but I want to revisit it for sure.
hmm, perhaps the hell is really getting frozen this year, because they merged 3 PRs from Tim (linked in https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1005083#35)

FYI, I made a progress last week on the qt5-qtwebengine for ppc64le and I believe I can keep up with the "mainline" qtwebengine, thus I'm going to work on rebasing sigil soon.
Great! If it helps at all Sigil and PageEdit should build easily with the latest Qt6 and PySide6 as well.
It will be Qt5-based for the foreseeable future, because there is no Qt6 WebEngine yet (at all) in Fedora. If I understand correctly, then it's still missing the free/curated source archive that we could distribute. Any updates on getting Sigil to get updated on Fedora? FWIW All 3 bugs listed in this Bugzilla specific to Sigil have all been fixed in Sigil versions *after* the horribly old 0.9.14 version still used here. Please update to Sigil-2.0.2 which uses Qt6. This is getting absurd. I would truly rather Fedora drop Sigil completely then keep it stuck at such an ancient version which is Webkit based and loaded with security issues long since fixed. If there is a way for a Sigil Developer to ask Fedora to either update or remove this package completely, I am doing that now.
Indeed, this bug has now been open for more than 4 years. The objection from 1 year ago that we did not have Qt6 QtWebEngine is also no longer valid, we have that now.
Seems I have 1.9.20 packaged locally for quite some time, but don't recall why I haven't pushed it as an update. Perhaps there were some issues ... My spare time is limited, but I will try to look at updating sigil in next couple weeks again.
I have pushed the update to 1.9.20 to Rawhide, so please provide feedback, so it can be reflected in the 2.0.x update that I am starting to work on.
