Description Chris Murphy 2019-07-09 16:43:11 UTC
1. Please describe the problem:

Wifi seems to hang and I see beacon loss message by wpa_supplicant and iwlwifi, this time I see a firmware "crash" or complaint.

[14495.717024] flap.local kernel: iwlwifi 0000:6c:00.0: Microcode SW error detected. Restarting 0x2000000.

2. What is the Version-Release number of the kernel:
5.2.0-1.fc31.x86_64

3. Did it work previously in Fedora? If so, what kernel version did the issue
*first* appear? Old kernels are available for download at
   https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/packageinfo?packageID=8 :

The beacon losses have been happening transiently for most of the 5.2.0 development period; but this is the first firmware trace I've seen.

4. Can you reproduce this issue? If so, please provide the steps to reproduce
   the issue below:

Transient, but I'm fairly certain it's only happening after wake from suspend.

5. Does this problem occur with the latest Rawhide kernel? To install the
Rawhide kernel, run ``sudo dnf install fedora-repos-rawhide`` followed by
   ``sudo dnf update --enablerepo=rawhide kernel``:

Yes

6. Are you running any modules that not shipped with directly Fedora's kernel?:

No

7. Please attach the kernel logs. You can get the complete kernel log
   for a boot with ``journalctl --no-hostname -k > dmesg.txt``. If the
issue occurred on a previous boot, use the journalctl ``-b`` flag.

Comment 3 Chris Murphy 2019-07-09 16:45:16 UTC
This is a Fedora 30 system using a Fedora 31 kernel. I think the relevant firmware package is linux-firmware, and it's the same version as what's available on Rawhide.

Comment 5 Chris Murphy 2019-07-09 16:50:29 UTC
I see this in kernel messages, but I can't tell if it's an internal firmware, or if it's grabbing firmware from a file, or if it's what should be used.

[ 9.187528] iwlwifi 0000:6c:00.0: loaded firmware version 36.9f0a2d68.0 op_mode iwlmvm

And also

[ 0.000000] DMI: HP HP Spectre Notebook/81A0, BIOS F.43 04/16/2019

That is the latest UEFI firmware.

Comment 7 Emmanuel Grumbach 2019-07-09 16:57:48 UTC
already fixed, please check https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=203315

Comment 8 Chris Murphy 2019-07-09 17:13:02 UTC
OK super, in that case I'll close this.

Comment 9 Chris Murphy 2019-07-12 22:31:00 UTC
I'm getting something quite a bit more verbose with this Rawhide kernel
Fri Jul 12 2019 5.3.0-0.rc0.git4.1 - Linux v5.2-7109-gd7d170a8e357

But instead of reopening this bug I've create a new upstream one because it looks somewhat different than this or any of the other Intel wifi bugs I ran across when searching.
