Description Adam Williamson 2019-07-16 20:28:31 UTC
In current Fedora Rawhide, Plasma seems to like showing multiple instances of the 'Software Updates Available' notification, like this:

https://openqa.fedoraproject.org/tests/422111#step/desktop_notifications/26

I don't see any purpose to this, it's just annoying that you have to close all of them before you can actually do anything about them. AFAICS there should only ever be a maximum of one instance of this notification at a time.

This is a bit inconvenient for openQA because of https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1358146 : notifications appear in the bottom-right hand corner, which is exactly where you're supposed to do stuff about update notifications. So you can't see an update notification and just do stuff about it, because the notification blocks the UI elements you need to use to install the updates: you have to close the notification before you can do something about it. When there are *multiple* notifications, you have to close them *all* before you can do something useful.

Note, in the recent cases it seems like two notifications for the same number of available updates appear simultaneously. I've also seen a slightly different case where two notifications claiming different numbers of available updates were displayed together; those may have appeared serially (i.e. a notification for '1 update available' shows up, then if it is never dismissed and a later check finds another update, perhaps an addition '2 updates available' notification appears...in this case I'd expect the '2 updates available' notification to supersede and replace the '1 update available' notification).

This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 31 development cycle.
Changing version to '31'.

I don't think we've seen this lately, and with update notifications being transient in F33+, it seems like it shouldn't be a problem any more, so I think I'll close this.
