RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Akira TAGOH 2019-08-05 10:27:50 UTC
Description of problem:
Apparently no epel8 version available in bugzilla though, this is a request for EPEL8. python3-brotli is required for fonttools which is required to build vlgothic-fonts on EPEL8.

So that would be really appreciated if you can package this for EPEL8.

Comment 1 pouar 2019-10-17 01:47:26 UTC
I sent you an email saying that I gave you maintainer access some time ago, but in case you didn't see it I mentioning it here.

I noticed you didn't make any commits so I'm guessing you didn't see the reply to the email I sent when you requested access

Comment 3 Akira TAGOH 2019-10-17 04:46:14 UTC
Thank you for updates. actually I noticed your action but I couldn't make a request for branching because it was shipped in as a part of RHEL8 but some sub packages wasn't. it seems that this may needs to be done as a module.

Comment 4 Jason Tibbitts 2019-10-21 20:58:40 UTC
What needs to happen is that someone needs to make a separate EPEL-only source package which produces the missing python3-brotli package. This can all be accomplished without involving modules.

Comment 5 Akira TAGOH 2019-10-23 08:55:38 UTC
Aha. that might be an option indeed. but it may breaks something easily and has to be done very carefully, or need a support on the infrastructure to avoid such situation. otherwise it may be quite risky.

Comment 6 Carl George 2019-10-23 13:45:49 UTC
python3-brotli is part of the RHEL 8 spec file.

https://git.centos.org/rpms/brotli/blob/c8/f/SPECS/brotli.spec#_45-56

For whatever reason Red Hat isn't providing that subpackage in the repos. Lets at least ask Red Hat first before trying to do it in EPEL.

I'm trying to change the product on this bug to RHEL, but it doesn't seem to be working...

Comment 7 Carl George 2019-10-23 14:04:16 UTC
Hello Tomas and Lumír, I set needsinfo for y'all on this bug because for some reason bugzilla isn't letting me change the product of this to RHEL to get your feedback. Would it be possible for RHEL 8 to include the python3-brotli subpackage? It's not disabled in the spec file, but I don't see it available in any RHEL 8 repo.

Comment 8 Lumír Balhar 2019-10-24 05:44:19 UTC
python3-brotli package is contained only in RHEL8 buildroot repository and therefore it isn't visible automatically. It should not be hard to request its inclusion also to distribution repositories because it depends only on Python 3.

It's up to the main admins whether they want to maintain the subpackage.

And that's Eike (CC'ing him)

Comment 10 Eike Rathke 2019-10-25 17:30:34 UTC
If someone could enlighten me what exactly is expected from me here?
I mean, yes I can maintain it, but what would I need to do now?

Comment 11 Carl George 2019-11-03 23:46:40 UTC
Eike, EPEL maintainers would like to be able to use the python3-brotli package. It's part of the brotli spec file, but it is not included in the RHEL 8 repositories. I've heard this referred to as a "buildroot-only package". How do we go about including that package in the repositories?

Comment 12 Lumír Balhar 2019-11-04 08:37:17 UTC
Eike, the process is described in the RHEL 8 Developer guide.

What you have to do: "To move non-modular content from one repository to another, please create a clone of the AppStream/BaseOS request ticket [0] and fill in the appropriate information. We will evaluate your request and ensure that all of the various package dependencies and teams are aligned and then help you move the content from one stream to the other."

Hello,

may I ask what's the state here? I have a requirement for python3-brotli to be in EPEL8.

Thank you

Comment 18 pouar 2020-03-25 18:57:14 UTC
I just kinda assumed Eike Rathke was going to do something about it, considering he got assigned to it and set the target release to 8.2. Was I wrong?

Comment 19 Eike Rathke 2020-03-26 13:46:43 UTC
This got stuck when I could not find QE lead with capacity to test EPEL, after which I retargeted to rhel-8.2
