Note: This bug is displayed in read-only format because the product is no longer active in Red Hat Bugzilla.
RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description sgardner 2019-08-07 21:48:00 UTC
Description of problem:

ghost file "/var/run/libvirt/qemu" is created with incorrect mode - when compared to RPM specfile which is breaking STIG verifications.

Spec file shows 700 permissions
/var/run/libvirt/qemu 040700 root root

File is created with 755 permissions
drwxr-xr-x. 2 root root 480 Aug 7 17:41 qemu /var/lib/setroubleshoot/email_alert_recipients

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

- This started with RHEL7.5 when rpm started listing ghost files in checks.

How reproducible:

- Easily - Any new installation of RHEL7.5+

Actual results:
 drwxr-xr-x. 2 root root 480 Aug 7 17:41 qemu

Expected results:
 drwx------. 2 root root 480 Aug 7 17:41 qemu

Additional info:

- This is breaking STIG verifications. This BZ is part of a larger issue created by RPM verifications including ghost files.

commit 7cf7eab52da9f018d9c2e70849f224e490d22f46

    spec: Fix permissions of /var/run/libvirt/qemu

While libvirtd creates this directory with the default 0755 mode, the
spec file stores 0700 in the RPM database. Thus RPM verification always
complains about this directory. Let's fix the spec file to match
    reality.

Reproduce this bug on libvirt-daemon-driver-qemu-4.5.0-26.el7.x86_64

# rpm -qf /var/run/libvirt/qemu
libvirt-daemon-driver-qemu-4.5.0-26.el7.x86_64

# rpm -V libvirt-daemon-driver-qemu-4.5.0-26.el7.x86_64
.M....... g /var/run/libvirt/qemu

# ll -d /var/run/libvirt/qemu
drwxr-xr-x. 2 root root 120 Oct 24 03:09 /var/run/libvirt/qemu

Comment 6 Luyao Huang 2020-01-06 07:17:08 UTC
Verify this bug with libvirt-4.5.0-31.el7.x86_64:

1. check /var/run/libvirt/qemu dir permission:

# ll -d /var/run/libvirt/qemu
drwxr-xr-x. 2 root root 40 Jan 6 02:12 /var/run/libvirt/qemu

2. use rpm validate related package:

# rpm -qf /var/run/libvirt/qemu
libvirt-daemon-driver-qemu-4.5.0-31.el7.x86_64

# rpm -V libvirt-daemon-driver-qemu-4.5.0-31.el7.x86_64

# echo $?
