python2-matplotlib-2.2.4-5.fc31.1.x86_64 fails to install in Fedora rawhide: nothing provides python2-backports-functools_lru_cache needed by python2-matplotlib-2.2.4-5.fc31.1.x86_64 nothing provides python2.7dist(backports.functools-lru-cache) needed by python2-matplotlib-2.2.4-5.fc31.1.x86_64 This is most likely caused by a dependency that was retired. Please drop the dependency, unretire the dependency or remove the package. Thanks
This is the python2 version of matplotlib, that was added when the main matplotlib package updated to a version that is python3 only. It was added because dropping the python2 version of matplotlib would have been very disruptive. Now one of the dependencies of this package was dropped. There are still packages depending on the python2 version of matplotlib, so dropping it will break stuff. What should be done now? Ask for the removed python2 dependency to be put back, or drop the package? I know this package should eventually be dropped, but I thought it was still going to be in Fedora 31 and be dropped in Fedora 32. But now one of its dependences are missing.
Yes, I believe the dependency was dropped by a mistake. https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/python-backports-functools_lru_cache/c/d3e8151ba70e629e11afbcdeb2550e5e0f22291d?branch=master This says "not used". Gwyn, could you please put it back?

Apologies, I must have run an erroneous repoquery. https://pagure.io/releng/issue/8619
