Hi, I don't plan to build nor maintain squirrelmail for EPEL 8. Squirrelmail has close to zero activity upstream, last stable version was released 8 years ago. I'd recommend roundcube instead, or what meets your needs. Anyway, I will not maintain squirrelmail in epel 8, but if anyone else wants to do that (and I mean maintain, not just build current sources for epel8 so there is "something"), I will grant him the commits rights to do that.
Squirrelmail is easy mail client for local emails (cron mails, logwatch, other software that mail their outputs). We will build anyway for our internal use and update here if we find something new. thanks.

If you take a look again at squirrelmail webiste there's a 2021 note about php8 compatibility and indeed squirrelmail rpm from epel7 just seems to work also on RHEL8, and with latest PHP 7.4 too. Most development though is not reeflected on the website but goes on with continuous daily builds. https://squirrelmail.org/download.php For sure it is in no way abandoned and it never was. Regards.

Moreover it's a simple noarch package with php files so there's no compilation at all and package maintenance is really trivial
