The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description of problem:
After updating to 7.7, pidgin won't connect to my znc bouncer anymore.

2.10.11-7(7.6) and 2.10.11-8 (7.7) both have the same problem

How reproducible:
Always


Steps to Reproduce:
1. Connect to a znc server with ssl (haven't tested directly to freenode)

Actual results:
Connection fails with error "SSL Handshake Failed"


Expected results:
Connection succeeds

Local rebuild with patch https://developer.pidgin.im/attachment/ticket/17217/patch-17217.patch (from the linked bug entry) makes pidgin connect again.

Testing directly against freenode fails with the same "ssl handshake" error, even with nss from 7.6.
Patch fixes also this problem.

Thanks for tracking down the root cause and the upstream patch!

I see that we are already carrying the same patch as part of the pidgin-2.13.0 release in RHEL 8, so that means that it has had some real world testing.

While https://developer.pidgin.im/attachment/ticket/17217/patch-17217.patch was proposed as a fix for https://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/17217, the accepted upstream was https://bitbucket.org/pidgin/main/commits/2deceb0f9ef9

I am leaning towards using the upstream fix since it deletes a bunch of tricky-to-maintain code in favour of the NSS defaults.

I tested with  pidgin-2.10.11-9.el7 version and I was able to login to freenode without problems. Works fine generally.
