Note: This bug is displayed in read-only format because the product is no longer active in Red Hat Bugzilla.
Red Hat Satellite engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on Satellite to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "Satellite project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs will be migrated starting at the end of May. If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "Satellite project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/SAT-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description patalber 2019-08-28 19:35:23 UTC
Description of problem:
The customer can view 'All Hosts' page, but when check 'Content Hosts' page, he receives the message:

'You currently don't have any Content Hosts, you can register one by clicking the button on the right and following the instructions.'

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
6.5.2.1

How reproducible:
100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a new role
2. Assign the filter from the 'Hosts' drop-down of 'view_hosts'
3. Under this role, check the 'All Hosts' page first, then check the 'Content Hosts' page.

Actual results:
'You currently don't have any Content Hosts, you can register one by clicking the button on the right and following the instructions.'

Expected results:
Same list of hosts as shown in 'All Hosts', but on the 'Content Hosts' page.

Is the request here a single role for both pages?

Comment 4 Andrew Puch 2019-09-05 18:53:56 UTC
I think there should be consistency between the pages , as having the filter option would be helpful.

Comment 5 patalber 2019-09-05 19:23:23 UTC
Bryan,

Andrew summed it up well in Comment 4.

I know there's likely more going on under the hood than just a simple 'mirror' (for lack of a better term), but being unable to view any hosts on the 'Content Hosts' page that would be viewable on the 'All Hosts' page can make seemingly simple tasks (from a bulk actions perspective) tedious.

The current workaround is using the 'Content' button on the host page from the All Hosts view to reach the single host page, but that rules out being able to do any bulk tasks.

I hope this helps clarify the ask.

Thanks.

Comment 7 Marek Hulan 2019-09-17 15:34:22 UTC
I think the "view_content_hosts" permission should no longer be used, even though it's still present in the app. It does not seem to be defined anywhere in Katello anymore, perhaps we need a cleanup procedure if there's by accident some leftover. The content host pages should be granted by "view_hosts" permissions. I verified the behavior on 6.5. Note that view_organizations is also necessary in order to select organization.

Also on updated satellite-6.5.0-11 instance, I no longer see the view_content_hosts permission anywhere.

Raising needinfo on the reporter to provide more info about what exactly is the expected fix. Does it work when you used built-in Viewer role? Please provide log with debug log level and permission enabled logger when user tries to access content host and fails.

Comment 8 patalber 2019-10-22 17:35:03 UTC
Team,

When adding 'view_organizations' to the filter, the customer is able to view the Content Hosts page. This request can be closed as NOTABUG.

Thank you.
