Description Dominik 'Rathann' Mierzejewski 2019-09-19 13:09:49 UTC
1. Please describe the problem:
Blocking WiFi via rfkill (or NetworkManager) sometimes causes WARNING: TX on unused queue 5.

2. What is the Version-Release number of the kernel:
5.2.14-200.fc30.x86_64

3. Did it work previously in Fedora? If so, what kernel version did the issue
   *first* appear? Old kernels are available for download at
   https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/packageinfo?packageID=8 :
My abrt logs show it started when I updated to 5.2.11-200.fc30.x86_64. I haven't tried earlier kernels.

4. Can you reproduce this issue? If so, please provide the steps to reproduce
   the issue below:
Yes, it occurs infrequently when doing
rfkill block wlan
while being connected to a 5G WiFi network.

5. Does this problem occur with the latest Rawhide kernel? To install the
   Rawhide kernel, run ``sudo dnf install fedora-repos-rawhide`` followed by
   ``sudo dnf update --enablerepo=rawhide kernel``:
Unknown, I haven't tried.

6. Are you running any modules that not shipped with directly Fedora's kernel?:
No.

7. Please attach the kernel logs. You can get the complete kernel log
   for a boot with ``journalctl --no-hostname -k > dmesg.txt``. If the
   issue occurred on a previous boot, use the journalctl ``-b`` flag.
See upstream report. If that's not enough, let me know and I'll post full dmesg.

Comment 1 Dominik 'Rathann' Mierzejewski 2019-09-19 13:11:00 UTC
Upstream bug report says is started with 5.2.9.

Comment 2 Justin M. Forbes 2020-03-03 16:25:19 UTC
*********** MASS BUG UPDATE **************

We apologize for the inconvenience. There are a large number of bugs to go through and several of them have gone stale. Due to this, we are doing a mass bug update across all of the Fedora 30 kernel bugs.

Fedora 30 has now been rebased to 5.5.7-100.fc30. Please test this kernel update (or newer) and let us know if you issue has been resolved or if it is still present with the newer kernel.

If you have moved on to Fedora 31, and are still experiencing this issue, please change the version to Fedora 31.

If you experience different issues, please open a new bug report for those.

Comment 3 Dominik 'Rathann' Mierzejewski 2020-03-09 09:57:27 UTC
Still reproducible on F31 and kernel-5.5.5-200.fc31.x86_64.

Comment 4 Dominik 'Rathann' Mierzejewski 2020-03-09 09:59:43 UTC
With latest kernel-5.5.7-200.fc31.x86_64 as well.

Comment 5 Ben Cotton 2020-04-07 14:06:41 UTC
kernel-5.5.15 (now in the Fedora 31 updates repo) fixes some iwlwifi issues. Can you try that and see if it still exists?

Comment 6 Dominik 'Rathann' Mierzejewski 2020-04-12 09:11:57 UTC
Unfortunately, it's still reproducible:

Comment 7 Ben Cotton 2020-11-03 17:13:11 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 31 is nearing its end of life.
Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 31 on 2020-11-24.
It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer
maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a
Fedora 'version' of '31'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 31 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 8 Dominik 'Rathann' Mierzejewski 2020-11-07 08:48:44 UTC

I haven't paid much attention to it before, but my machine has two rfkill switches for wlan. The first one toggles hardware block for the second, too:
$ rfkill
ID TYPE      DEVICE              SOFT      HARD
 0 wlan      sony-wifi      unblocked unblocked
 1 bluetooth sony-bluetooth   blocked unblocked
 3 wlan      phy0           unblocked unblocked
 4 nfc       nfc0           unblocked unblocked
$ rfkill block 0
$ rfkill
ID TYPE      DEVICE              SOFT      HARD
 0 wlan      sony-wifi        blocked unblocked
 1 bluetooth sony-bluetooth   blocked unblocked
 3 wlan      phy0           unblocked   blocked
 4 nfc       nfc0           unblocked unblocked
$ rfkill unblock 0
$ rfkill
ID TYPE      DEVICE              SOFT      HARD
 0 wlan      sony-wifi      unblocked unblocked
 1 bluetooth sony-bluetooth   blocked unblocked
 3 wlan      phy0           unblocked unblocked
 4 nfc       nfc0           unblocked unblocked
$ rfkill block 3
$ rfkill
ID TYPE      DEVICE              SOFT      HARD
 0 wlan      sony-wifi      unblocked unblocked
 1 bluetooth sony-bluetooth   blocked unblocked
 3 wlan      phy0             blocked unblocked
 4 nfc       nfc0           unblocked unblocked
$ rfkill unblock 3

And this WARNING is reproducible only if I do `rfkill block 0`, but doesn't occur if I do `rfkill block 3`.
