Description of problem: petsc appears to have the unfortunate trait of checking for mpich versions: /usr/include/mpich-x86_64/petsc/petscsys.h:163:6: error: #error "PETSc was configured with one MPICH mpi.h version but now appears to be compiling using a different MPICH mpi.h version" 163 | # error "PETSc was configured with one MPICH mpi.h version but now appears to be compiling using a different MPICH mpi.h version" | ^~~~~ This is currently breaking dependencies like sundials in F31+: https://koschei.fedoraproject.org/package/sundials?collection=f31 Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): petsc-3.11.3-6.fc32 I would strongly urge working with upstream to remove this check. Barring that, I think petsc-mpich will need to explicitly require the version of mpich it was compiled with to catch this earlier at the rpm level.
