Please build python-backcall for EPEL 8, which is a prerequisite for ipython (Bug 1758271). The component is not in Fedora EPEL yet so I am filing the bug against Fedora. Since ipython stopped supporting Python 2.7, I think it's fine to just package the python3 part.
Will you maintain the EPEL 8 version?
I can try. I use Python in my daily work and I know some about the rpm .spec files. With that said, I am not sure what the learning curve (of being a maintainer) would be and whether it is worth the effort of someone guiding me through the initial process e.g. permission set up, especially for this simple package (which I just checked contains only three files). Anyway, if you think it's worth the effort, please let me know how to proceed.
Oh, I haven't realized you are not a Fedora/EPEL packager yet. I'm not interested in maintaining this package in EPEL 8. I also don't have free cycles to guide you trough it, I'm sorry. Since this is blocking ipython, I bet Carl or Orion might be willing to take this... ?
I can help out and requested the branch. Ling - I would encourage you to become a packager - we need all the help we can get.
I've added you explicitly as co-maintainer.
