Looks like 7.0.5 has some bugs and creates invalid Java code.

Comment 2 Fabio Valentini 2019-11-06 22:53:39 UTC
Affected packages seem to include freemarker and apache-mime4j.

I confirm this observation.

We initially upgraded to 7.0.5, but had to revert to 7.0.4:

javacc-maven-plugin upstream has come back to life. They've released versions 3.0 and 3.0.1, but the new versions require javacc 7.0.12. (They also require jtb: http://compilers.cs.ucla.edu/jtb/). Let me know if you make plans to update javacc, and I'll look into packaging jtb and updating javacc-maven-plugin.

I only have picked up a javacc because it dependency of a dependency of some game which I package which happens to be written in java.

Generally speaking I'm not interested in java packaging, other then that I package a few games written in java.

As such from my pov I would not mind to give javacc to you, or to welcome you as a co-maintainer and then you can update javacc to the version you need. You can then (if that seems useful) push out everything together in a single bodhi update.

Actually let me just make you a co-maintainer/admin of javacc right away ... done.

BTW Jerry, please note comment 1 and 3 which indicate a big in version 7.0.5, hopefully that issue has been resolved in 7.0.12 .

I finally did this about 12 hours ago. However, I absent-mindedly forgot that freemarker needs a patch to build successfully with 7.0.12. The freemarker build.xml changes the string "private final LookaheadSuccess" to "private static final LookaheadSuccess" in the javacc-generated files. However, in javacc 7.0.12, the declaration is "static private final LookaheadSuccess". After the freemarker replacement, that is "static private static final LookaheadSuccess". The double static declaration is an error. There is an existing freemarker PR to address this. I opened a PR for the Fedora package here: https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/freemarker/pull-request/7.
