Someone wrote to me with: Do you know if we are ever going to see EPEL ClamAV builds compiled with .rar support? I know that ClamAV 0.101.0 added support for extraction/scanning of RAR v5.x archives. The feedback I've been getting from users is that the bad guys have figured out that they can bypass ClamAV virus scanning by just sending a .rar file because the EPEL ClamAV doesn't support it yet.
As I understand it the rar code is forbidden in Fedora, which is why it is in rpmfusion-nonfree. But I'm happy to be proven wrong.
unar [1] (not unrar) support rar extraction [1] https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/unar
I think upstream supporting it via libarchive is more promising. In any case, this is an upstream issue, so personally I would close it "UPSTREAM", but this is your bug :). https://bugzilla.clamav.net/show_bug.cgi?id=12279
Thanks, we might consider clamav-nonfree on rpmfusion-nonfre ?
