A flaw was found in the way the Intel Wireless driver in the Linux kernel handled resource cleanup during Gen 3 device initialization. This flaw allows an attacker with the ability to restrict access to DMA coherent memory on device initialization, to crash the system.

Description Marian Rehak 2019-11-21 11:35:16 UTC
Multiple memory leaks in the iwl_pcie_ctxt_info_gen3_init() function in drivers/net/wireless/intel/iwlwifi/pcie/ctxt-info-gen3.c in the Linux kernel through 5.3.11 allow attackers to cause a denial of service (memory consumption) by triggering iwl_pcie_init_fw_sec() or dma_alloc_coherent() failures.

Comment 1 Marian Rehak 2019-11-21 11:35:45 UTC
Created kernel tracking bugs for this issue:

Affects: fedora-all [bug 1775043]

Comment 3 Petr Matousek 2020-04-29 13:30:40 UTC
Statement:

This issue is rated as having Low impact because of the preconditions needed to trigger the resource cleanup code path (ability to restrict access to dma coherent memory on device initialization).

Comment 4 Petr Matousek 2020-04-29 13:30:44 UTC
Mitigation:

In order to mitigate this issue it is possible to prevent the affected code from being loaded by blacklisting the kernel module iwlwifi. For instructions relating to how to blacklist a kernel module refer to: https://access.redhat.com/solutions/41278 .
