Description Marko Myllynen 2019-12-12 09:53:49 UTC
Description of problem:
RH Satellite versions prior 6.2.11 used to require goferd for remote execution, however since RH Satellite 6.2.11 goferd is not required anymore and given that RH Satellite 6.3 is already unsupported there seems to be no reason to include or at least enable by default goferd on RHV Host Images. We have also seen goferd leaking memory once or twice leading to issues with a Host (but we haven't collected the required data for troubleshooting goferd) so running it needlessly is certainly unhelpful.

For more background information please see:

Please consider removing or at least disabling goferd by default on RHV Host Images.

In 4.4 we'll have sat-tools channel included in RHV SKU.
Let's remove katello dep from ovirt-host and update documentation to enable the sat-tools repo if needed.

Comment 3 Yuval Turgeman 2019-12-25 13:00:53 UTC
I sent a patch, but not sure about it - does it mean that we'll have to enable sat-tools for RHV-H also ?

yes. Martin, please confirm this is intended flow

That is my understanding as well.

Comment 8 Pavol Brilla 2020-04-20 10:51:35 UTC
sat-tools engID is being added to RHV SKU instead of adding gofer.

# yum deplist ovirt-host | grep gofer
#

# yum list ovirt-host
Available Packages
ovirt-host.x86_64 4.4.0-0.5.beta.el8ev rhv-4.4.0

No gofer was found in latest rhvh image build repo as well
