Description Tomáš Golembiovský 2020-01-09 11:12:00 UTC
The rhev-apt component is broken for some time and needs rebuild. The component
has been broken from version 4.43-2. Rhev-apt should be rebuilt to include fix
for the problem.

Currently the checksum on the RHV tools ISO is not parsed proprly (error
reported can be found in Event Log). Subsequently the drivers from the ISO are
not installed (or updated) in the guest.

Note that currently it is not broken only in RHV guest tools but also in
virt-v2v (libguestfs). This is tracked separately in bug 1753914.

Closing this as won't fix for the following reasons:
- APT is considered deprecated for 4.3 and will be removed on 4.4.
- APT build required InstallShield machine, the one we had in brew was destroyed a while ago (problem with disks if I remember correctly) and it is not possible to build it now.

Sure, and 4.3 is still supported for few years.

This needs to be fixed then.

Considering this is something supported, you will need to fix it in case a critical issue arises (e.g. a CVE, a bad regression, etc).
Hence, please do work on fixing this, thanks.

Comment 12 Tomáš Golembiovský 2020-04-09 12:56:15 UTC
A workaround is to download RHV tools ISO version 4.43-1 or older. Copy 'RHEV-Application Provisioning Tool.exe' from the ISO and replace /usr/share/virt-tools/rhev-apt.exe with the EXE from ISO on your VDSM host that you use for the conversion. Note that the file has to be renamed to 'rhev-apt.exe'!

Comment 13 Tomáš Golembiovský 2020-04-09 12:57:58 UTC
Alternatively you can attach the older ISO to the guest and downgrade the installed rhev-apt after the conversion.

FWIW, this old version has expired certificates for more than year now.
This was the reason why we updated it in virt-v2v (bug 1688056).

IIUC this is unblocked now
