This bug is still present as of today (2006-04-14) with the system (FC5) fully updated. It seems that xchat package does not ship the compiled message catalogs (/usr/share/locale/*/LC_MESSAGES/xchat.mo) except for two locales: /usr/share/locale/nl/LC_MESSAGES/xchat.mo /usr/share/locale/zh_TW/LC_MESSAGES/xchat.mo Could it be that the rest of the locales have a problem and they don't build?
2.6.0 didn't include many locales, 2.6.1 has a lot more.
This has been fixed in the later versions -- currently xchat contains 16 languages (including French).
