journal

1. Please describe the problem:

Gnome-shell suddenly freezed while watching a youtube video in Firefox and some other applications running. I had to hard-reset the system.

2. What is the Version-Release number of the kernel:

kernel-5.4.12-200.fc31.x86_64

3. Did it work previously in Fedora? If so, what kernel version did the issue
*first* appear? Old kernels are available for download at
   https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/packageinfo?packageID=8 :

It firsst appeared in the 5.4.z series

4. Can you reproduce this issue? If so, please provide the steps to reproduce
   the issue below:

It has happened a couple of times. Firefox was the main application, but not sure how to reproduce.

5. Does this problem occur with the latest Rawhide kernel? To install the
Rawhide kernel, run ``sudo dnf install fedora-repos-rawhide`` followed by
   ``sudo dnf update --enablerepo=rawhide kernel``:

I haven't tried that

6. Are you running any modules that not shipped with directly Fedora's kernel?:

No. Secure boot is enabled.

7. Please attach the kernel logs. You can get the complete kernel log
   for a boot with ``journalctl --no-hostname -k > dmesg.txt``. If the
issue occurred on a previous boot, use the journalctl ``-b`` flag.

Comment 2 Marcel Ziswiler 2020-01-24 12:55:10 UTC
I do get similar crashes all the time I'm using Slack or Zoom for video conferencing and switching graphical tasks. A colleague at work mentioned that this is a known i915 bug introduced back in Linux kernel 5.2ish times and still not fixed?

In the system journal it looks as follows:

I believe this started about two weeks ago still on 5.3 something? Now I am on latest 5.4.12-200.fc31.x86_64.

Comment 3 Pete Zaitcev 2020-01-30 20:10:05 UTC
In my case, the system is not entirely dead (responds to ping),
but since GPU is frozen, there's no choice but to reboot.

I'm on 5.4.13-201.fc31.x86_64.

The crashes seem to be prompted more by Rambox, which is an Electron
application. That's like having several browsers overlaid (one for
each of Discord, Slack, and Google channel). With Rambox the freeze
happens a couple times per day. But it happens with just Firefox, too,
just not as often.

Comment 4 Yura 2020-02-11 23:26:36 UTC
Got the same crash few times since updated to fedora 30

I think it's usually happened when some video playing.

When this hang happened "num lock/caps lock" were unresponsive so rebooted my lap.

Still hangs in kernel-5.4.17-200.fc31, I attached a couple of diagnostic files.

Comment 8 Marcel Ziswiler 2020-02-12 06:57:08 UTC
I can confirm still getting a rare hang but at least it no more freezed do far on my T470p. I may add more information later today when I get it again.

5.4.19-200.fc31.x86_64 and still freezing completely none recoverable!

Comment 12 David Abdurachmanov 2020-02-21 13:06:41 UTC
I am on Fedora 31 and with recent updates (last few days from now) it's failing on my laptop too. It seems to only happen while I am using Slack.
I can recover by closing the laptop lid and opening it again (this doesn't work always).

I am running kernel: 5.4.19-200.fc31.x86_64
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8550U CPU @ 1.80GHz

*********** MASS BUG UPDATE **************

We apologize for the inconvenience. There are a large number of bugs to go through and several of them have gone stale. Due to this, we are doing a mass bug update across all of the Fedora 31 kernel bugs.

Fedora 31 has now been rebased to 5.5.7-200.fc31. Please test this kernel update (or newer) and let us know if you issue has been resolved or if it is still present with the newer kernel.

If you have moved on to Fedora 32, and are still experiencing this issue, please change the version to Fedora 32.

If you experience different issues, please open a new bug report for those.

Comment 18 Juan Orti Alcaine 2020-03-03 21:59:25 UTC
Can't reproduce with 5.5.7

Comment 19 Justin M. Forbes 2020-03-04 16:17:29 UTC
