Description Carlos Goncalves 2020-02-19 08:17:37 UTC
Octavia has a PING type health monitor. Health monitors of type PING only check if the member is reachable and responds to ICMP echo requests. It will not detect if your application running on that instance is healthy or not. Its usage is discouraged and not supported in OSP.

Upstream documentation provides more context:
https://docs.openstack.org/octavia/latest/user/guides/basic-cookbook.html#other-heath-monitors

Comment 1 Michael Johnson 2020-02-19 15:36:45 UTC
Linked to the upstream patch where I try to clarify the PING health monitor.
