Below is the system status I got. when the install crashed.  I was
attempting a custom install and had individually selected/unselected a fair
number of packages.  This is on a Thinkpad 600 [288MB RAM, 300MHz PII] with
disk pre-partitioned -
HDA:
1 - NT 2000MB
2 - / 100MB
3 - swap 128MB
4 - extended
5 - /usr 1000MB
6 - /opt 1000MB
7 - /var 103MB
balance of partitions not added to setup.
