This can't be cherry-picked to 4.4 until https://github.com/openshift/api/pull/608 merges

Shawn: Can we abandon this, or do you want to make its case on the PR? This has been stalled for a while now, not to mention the dependent 4.3.z backport.

Closing this out. 4.4 is in maintenance mode, this is low severity, and has a work around (use a dynamic client).
