It would be great if you could provide a flatpak package of this app to https://registry.fedoraproject.org/. Especially for users of Fedora Silverblue https://silverblue.fedoraproject.org/ this then allows a seamless installation and upgrades without rebooting the system (just restarting the application). Additionally, flatpaks can of course be installed on any distro, so also non-Fedora users could use it too. Greetings! In order to build a Fedora Flatpak it is required to use modularity, as I understand it (if I'm wrong, please let me know.) I had made a module for one of my packages to try it out and I found it to be a time intensive process to create and maintain modules. I don't believe I can commit to creating (and more importantly, maintaining) a Fedora flatpak for Dino at this time due to the overhead of modularity. I would be happy to help another packager get involved in Dino maintenance, however, if someone else were motivated to make it happen.
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 33 development cycle. Changing version to 33.
> In order to build a Fedora Flatpak it is required to use modularity, as I understand it (if I'm wrong, please let me know.) I don't know either – I'm just a user, but I don't think so. At least that is what people in the forum said: > I’m not an expert either here (I’m currently unsuccessfully trying to build Flatpaks for KDE Apps in Fedora) but I don’t think this requires modules. See https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/maintainer-rpm-to-flatpak-process-requires-modularity/23153/2?u=rugk I can, again, only point to the Fedora Flatpak doc: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/flatpak/
I made a tentative Flatpak from the Fedora package using the docs with some default "permissions": https://pagure.io/travier_flatpaks/dino This will need to be moved to an independent repo similarly to what's done for eog for example: https://src.fedoraproject.org/flatpaks/eog I am also discussing this upstream in: https://github.com/dino/dino/issues/453
See upstream response: https://github.com/dino/dino/issues/453#issuecomment-691091110
Given upstream does not want to ship a flatpak, just because a minor feature (PGP/GPG encryption, which I think is not actually a big deal, i.e. I personally don’t need that, given there is OMEMO), could we maybe have a Fedora flatpak in the meantime? It’s really sad to see that such an IMHO unimportant feature is blocking a useful and pretty application from getting flapak’ed. For all Silverblue’rs of us, who don't want to layer such a thing, it makes it virtually impossible to use.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 33 is nearing its end of life. Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 33 on 2021-11-30. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '33'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 33 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
