Hmm, getting rid of the oops/backtrace here is easy enough. But I would first like to dig a little bit deeper to see what the problem is and if we can get the lis3lv02 driver to work properly on your model HP device.

I've started a test Fedora kernel build with a patch which should fix the oops and instead logs some debuginfo:

Note this is still building atm, this will take a couple of hours to finish. When it is finished please give it a try.

After booting this kernel please do:

dmesg > dmesg.txt

And attach the generated dmesg.txt file here.

Also please run the following command to install evemu-record:

sudo dnf install evemu

And then run:

sudo evemu-record

And select the "ST LIS3LV02DL Accelerometer" device, after this move the laptop around a bit (lift it up and tilt the keyboard left / right / forward / backward. This should result in some output from evemu-record indicating that the accelerometer is working. I have a feeling that in your device it might have been turned of by the BIOS, which is causing the oops and will probably also result in you not getting any output from evemu-record when moving the laptop around.

I would like to try and resolve this bug, but I will need some input from people with affected hardware.

Can someone please test the test-kernel I build? Note that test kernel builds are thrown away by the buildsystem after about a week to save diskspace. So at a minimum if you do not have time to test atm, please download the test-kernel (see instructions for which files you need) so that you can test this later.

Paulo, Thank you for your feedback.

Looking at your evemu-record output it seems that the accelerometer is working, which is good.

Looking at your dmesg output I do not see the oops/backtracve there, so I guess that it only happens sometimes ?

Also looking at yuor dmesg output, you seem to be running a stock Fedora kernel and not the test-kernel I build. Can you please install the test-kernel from comment 3 and see if you can reproduce the problem with that kernel ?

Also can you try the evemu-record again with that kernel please?

2 questions about the test kernel:

1. Are you still seeing the issue (oops/backtrace) or is that problem fixed now ?

2. Does the accelerometer still work (you can try with evemu-record as before) ?
