Description George R. Goffe 2020-04-06 13:05:51 UTC
Description of problem:
started virt-manager to manage VMs and the text is displayed as tiny boxes with a number in each. VERY similar to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1257158 which ALSO displays the same behavior as does the print popup from Firefox.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
virt-manager-2.2.1-3.fc32.noarch

How reproducible:
always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.enter virt-manager
2.
3.

Actual results:
see above

Expected results:
A usable "product".

Additional info:

This is VERY SIMILAR to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1257158.

Hi,

gnome-abrt is also affected... as well as parts of gedit (as referenced by bug-id: 1257158).

It's looking like the problem isn't with virt-manager but some other underlying factor.

Comment 2 Daniel Berrangé 2020-04-07 08:39:35 UTC
Re-assigning to GTK3 since multiple GTK based apps are affected.

Comment 3 George R. Goffe 2020-04-08 03:51:45 UTC
LibreOffice is affected too. :(

Thanks,

George...

Comment 4 George R. Goffe 2020-04-12 02:29:32 UTC
I needed to re-install this system and am in the process of making it look like the previous system. I will add several pkgs at a time with the hope of isolating the one that causes this...

Comment 5 George R. Goffe 2020-04-12 17:35:30 UTC
I am unable to determine the package(s) that affect(s) this bug.

Daniel,

Is anyone working this bug? It's becoming quite critical for me that this one is resolved.

Thanks again for your help,

Regards,

George...

I only know that this isn't a QEMU problem, so at that point is is up to the GTK maintainers to decide what to do, or possibly it is a font configuration problem, not GTK/

Comment 8 George R. Goffe 2020-04-24 23:00:45 UTC
Hi,

I don't see any evidence that anyone has worked this case since it was assigned to the GTK folks BUT, the problem has gone away now. NONE of the apps (and I presume others that I did not report) are failing at this moment.

THANKS to whomever did the magic here.

I didn't believe in magic 'til now.

Regards,

George...
