The old php-magickwand package is not compatible with the newer ImageMagick-6.9.10.68-3 after upgrading to RHEL 7.8.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
1.0.9-6

Comment 1 Mike Willis 2020-05-04 09:26:08 UTC
Is there an ETA on a fix for this please? This incompatability is a problem if you have php-magickwand and ImageMagick installed aand try to update from CentOS 7.7 to 7.8.

Comment 2 Robert Scheck 2020-05-04 10:36:35 UTC
Not sure if you recognized that php-magickwand is dead software, thus it won't be available for RHEL/CentOS 8 at all. Given CentOS 7.8 was released meanwhile, the dependency issue will be fixed soon - either by rebuild or by removal of php-magickwand.

Comment 3 Mike Willis 2020-05-04 11:13:47 UTC
I had no idea it is dead software. All I know is someone wanted it on a server I manage and now the package is blocking updates. But now I see the URL in the package is http://www.magickwand.org/ which no longer exists. And https://www.imagemagick.org/MagickWandForPHP/ also directs people to http://www.magickwand.org/

The closest I can find to an official declaration of it being dead is https://www.imagemagick.org/discourse-server/viewtopic.php?t=28980 Is there a more definitive statement somewhere?

Comment 4 Robert Scheck 2020-05-04 11:39:11 UTC
No, there is unfortunately no statement, the upstream maintainers effectively just don't care about their software anymore. There is no support for PHP 7 in php-magickwand and thus RHEL/CentOS 7 is the last release being supportable at all due to PHP 5. See bug #1759955 and bug #1360302 for the collected details. I'm sorry, an alternative could be php-pecl-imagick or php-pecl-gmagick.
