Description carlosjosepita 2020-04-09 07:32:24 UTC
Description of problem: After launching LyX icon is not visible in Gnome Shell app switcher nor the dash, instead a generic icon appears.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 2.3.4.2

How reproducible: Totally reproducible.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Launch LyX
2. Press Super to open the Overview
3. Look at the new icon in the Dash
4. Try to drag it in order to make it favorite
5. Press Alt-Tab or Super-Tab
6. Look at the icons in the app switcher

Actual results: A generic icon is shown for the window, but the app itself is not identified.

Expected results: LyX icon is shown in the app switcher and dash, if I drag&drop it it becomes a favorite.

Additional info: up-to-date Fedora 32 beta.

Comment 1 Rex Dieter 2020-04-09 13:15:20 UTC
This one likely is a gnome limitation (I forget the rules it uses for determining this)

Comment 2 carlosjosepita 2020-04-09 13:29:37 UTC
I don't think this is related to Gnome. I use LyX in Gnome under Arch too and nothing like this happens. The desktop file is exactly the same. In both cases, I run a Wayland session.

Comment 3 carlosjosepita 2020-04-09 16:33:50 UTC
Ok it's not Arch vs Fedora but X11 vs Wayland. The confusion was due to Fedora setting QT_QPA_PLATFORM=wayland by default while is Arch is X11 all the way down. Now, unsetting QT_QPA_PLATFORM correctly shows the icon in Fedora also (and, conversely, setting it to wayland in Arch reproduces the problem), so it's clearly a Wayland thing.

Yep, sorry I should have been more clear (I knew that, but didn't say it).

Comment 5 carlosjosepita 2020-04-25 03:18:43 UTC
I'm unable to reproduce in latest Fedora 32 RC, so feel free to close it.

Comment 6 José Matos 2020-06-13 17:14:09 UTC
As suggested by the original reporter I am closing this bug.

Feel free to reopen if you feel that the problem still applies.

Comment 7 carlosjosepita 2020-09-15 22:19:27 UTC
Sorry, I'm reopening this issue because it's happening again. I has been some months since last time I used Fedora, but today I updated my Fedora 32 and I'm seeing this: generic icons in app switcher and in dash, not able to set lyx as favorite, etc. Same as before.
