Description of problem: dnf upgrade SELinux is preventing restorecon from using the 'mac_admin' capabilities. ***** Plugin catchall (100. confidence) suggests ************************** If you believe that restorecon should have the mac_admin capability by default. Then you should report this as a bug. You can generate a local policy module to allow this access. Do allow this access for now by executing: # ausearch -c 'restorecon' --raw | audit2allow -M my-restorecon # semodule -X 300 -i my-restorecon.pp Additional Information: Source Context unconfined_u:unconfined_r:setfiles_t:s0-s0:c0.c102 3 Target Context unconfined_u:unconfined_r:setfiles_t:s0-s0:c0.c102 3 Target Objects Unknown [ capability2 ] Source restorecon Source Path restorecon Port <Unknown> Host (removed) Source RPM Packages Target RPM Packages SELinux Policy RPM selinux-policy-targeted-3.14.5-37.fc32.noarch Local Policy RPM selinux-policy-targeted-3.14.5-37.fc32.noarch Selinux Enabled True Policy Type targeted Enforcing Mode Enforcing Host Name (removed) Platform Linux (removed) 5.6.7-300.fc32.x86_64 #1 SMP Thu Apr 23 14:13:50 UTC 2020 x86_64 x86_64 Alert Count 45 First Seen 2020-04-30 20:09:37 CEST Last Seen 2020-04-30 20:17:38 CEST Local ID 1f5d6d35-5577-4991-86c7-dfc1102a4138 Raw Audit Messages type=AVC msg=audit(1588270658.370:1562): avc: denied { mac_admin } for pid=165818 comm="restorecon" capability=33 scontext=unconfined_u:unconfined_r:setfiles_t:s0-s0:c0.c1023 tcontext=unconfined_u:unconfined_r:setfiles_t:s0-s0:c0.c1023 tclass=capability2 permissive=0 Hash: restorecon,setfiles_t,setfiles_t,capability2,mac_admin Version-Release number of selected component: selinux-policy-targeted-3.14.5-37.fc32.noarch Additional info: component: selinux-policy reporter: libreport-2.12.0 hashmarkername: setroubleshoot kernel: 5.6.7-300.fc32.x86_64 type: libreport Potential duplicate: bug 714136
Hi, The mac_admin permission indicates an attempt to get or set raw security context values unknown to the current policy. Could you show the audited denials? # ausearch -i -m avc,user_avc,selinux_err,user_selinux_err -ts today
Unfortunately I cannot. This error was one of the outcomes of the catastrophic selinux 3.14.5-37 update. Also some flatpak selinux problems have been reported. After trying to relabel the whole system, I couldn't log in any more. Ultimately I had to disable selinux via the kernel command line and to revert the selinux update again. I'll add a versionlock for now to prevent another disaster from happening at the next update. I URGE EVERYONE WHO READS THIS TO NOT (!!!) USE VERSION 3.14.5-37 AS IT IS FUNDAMENTALLY BROKEN AND WILL RESULT IN AN UNUSABLE SYSTEM. I can confirm https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1811407#c44 by 100% on my side.
Michael, The mac_admin permission indicates an attempt to get or set raw security context values unknown to the current policy, and this context may be defined in an independent policy module which is a part of a separate subpackage, e. g. flatpak-selinux. These steps can help with identifying a possible problem: # rpm -qa "*-selinux" # ls -lZ /var/lib/selinux/targeted/active/modules/[24]00/ # semodule -lfull|grep -v ^100 Note the current package version is selinux-policy-3.14.5-38.fc32, but with no substantial change possibly related to your problem. We expect to have another build soon.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 32 is nearing its end of life. Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 32 on 2021-05-25. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '32'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 32 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Fedora 32 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2021-05-25. Fedora 32 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
